Summary

This project aims to achieve an integrated approach to Web-based teaching in the field of Production and Operations Management. Special consideration will be given to technical and managerial concepts and to related software solutions, that have gained great significance world-wide as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Supply Chain Management (SCM) systems. New developments in the direction of e-business are also included. In addition, the project will contribute to a coordination of the syllabuses used in German- and French-speaking universities in Switzerland. ERP systems are now widespread in large Swiss enterprises and are also becoming increasingly important for Small and Medium Enterprises (SME). Supply Chain Management systems support new ways of organizing the collaboration between firms. Implementing such concepts is of great importance to the competitive strength of the Swiss economy, and to this end a combination of specialized technical and business knowledge is achieved by the co-operation between the project partners.

The course will be constructed on a modular basis and developed in English. There are suitable precedents for this activity because the applicants have already covered a considerable portion of the subject matter in German and English textbooks.
